Quorum onQ 5.0 is here and it’s faster, more scalable and more secure than ever. There are a lot of changes in 5.0 that will help you keep up with shifting IT architectures and will make your recoveries faster and more secure. First, a note about what we see in the market.
The move to more cloud services continues! Companies continue to push applications and data to the cloud, but not at the pace that everyone initially expected. Companies continue to migrate, but only as applications and data are replaced with newer cloud services. In some cases, legacy applications are not easily migrated to the cloud, which forces a complete change out of applications and export and archiving of data. Onsite applications and data are not going away any time soon.
New in onQ 5.0 is our “HA Anywhere” strategy which continues to support legacy applications and data while putting as much backup and recovery data in the cloud as possible. Realizing that not everything is cloud ready, onQ 5.0 continues to offer high speed onsite HA and DR that seamlessly integrates with our new Direct2Cloud deployment architecture. Quorum is one of the only backup and disaster recovery vendors that gives you the flexibility to use both onsite HA with Cloud HA and DR all together in one product. onQ 5.0 admins manage both sets of servers the same, whether they are backed up and recovered locally or from the Quorum private cloud. This means that all backups and recoveries are standard processes, regardless of where the data resides.
We have done a lot of work on our internal storage architecture which has resulted in a net increase of 40% more usable space on the same hardware. Customers can store more snapshots, or can store snapshots for longer periods whichever makes more sense for their business.
We have also shifted to SuperMicro as our strategic hardware vendor due to some concerns we have with Dell support and availability. This is not a decision we took lightly, but SuperMicro has proven that they can deliver better support, and more hardware options, making them the logical choice for onQ 5.0 going forward.
Archiving is now integrated into onQ 5.0. Previously archiving lived outside of onQ, but now it’s fully integrated and available inside the onQ appliance.
Finally, our management console has gone through a major upgrade with a lot of new features that makes managing multiple onQ’s more intuitive and efficient.
